The museum surroundings retain many historical features
, including St Peter's Church - originally the site of an 8th Century Saxon Parish. Manor Gardens itself boasts the remains of a 13th Century Manor House, a 19th Century coach house and farm buildings, and an array of colourful foliage in public park grounds.

Visits by school parties and adult groups must be pre-booked, and can be accomodated outside normal opening times. Special study groups are welcome, and facilities can be arranged for student workshops.
